The main goal of Mayland's FREE Life Skills classes is to assist adult students with improving their academic, workplace, and independent living skills in order to prepare for greater community involvement, increased independence, further studies, and/or employment. In addition to learning basic reading, math, writing, and technology skills, students work with trained instructors to practice money management, decision making, self-advocacy, community awareness, and other relevant skills for increased independence and learning. Adults with intellectual or development disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. Work Skills Academy is a free entry-level training program designed for Occupational Course of Study (OCS) graduates and others who have barriers to traditional work who want to build their skills for entering the workforce. Work Skills Academy students will build skills, make connections with local employers, and master specific job tasks. Over the course of the program, students will develop an Interview Portfolio documenting their achievements and the specific skills they have mastered.
