#includemeincollege: How One Girl’s Dream of College Changed Others’ Ways of Thinking

Join blogger, advocate, and self-designated supermom, Jennifer Farmer, as she tells the story of how her daughter Chloe decided she wanted to go college and all the things that happened to help Chloe achieve that goal. Chloe Farmer knew from a young age that she wanted to go to college, and her mother, Jennifer decided she would do whatever it took to help her achieve her goals. It wasn’t easy: there were a lot of meetings, a lot of resistance, and many other obstacles. However, by learning and understanding Chloe’s rights and becoming a highly educated and staunch advocate, Jennifer paved the way for Chloe to do what she had to do to go to college. After applying to and being accepted to 3 colleges, Chloe decided on Vanderbilt, where she is today. Participants will learn: a) how to work with high school educators and staff to do self-determined, self-directed post-secondary planning; b) what specific goals to include in the planning, and how to work towards achieving them; c) how to conduct a personalized college search and go through the application & admissions process; and d) making the final decision.
