Think College Transition: Developing Effective College-based Transition Services

This event ended. View webinar recording, slides, and supplemental materials.

Many high school programs supporting students with intellectual and developmental disabilities want to move from providing traditional school-based transition services but don’t know where to start or where to find the resources to make changes. In this webinar, staff from the Think College Transition project share information and new resources that resulted from a 4-year collaborative project with three inclusive dual enrollment partnerships. Topics will include recommendations for individualizing transition services, developing formal college-school agreements, communicating college-based transition services to campus and school stakeholders, promoting professional-parent partnerships, hiring and training dual enrollment staff, facilitating effective and relevant professional development and integrating ongoing evaluation activities to sustain the model.

Participants will be able to identify and apply 7 strategies to create college-based transition services:

1. Develop individualized transition services from person-centered planning to academic advising and enrollment; 2. Facilitate a memorandum of agreement between college and school partners to support college-based transition services; 3. Create a marketing plan to communicate the program to key stakeholders; 4. Promote ongoing professional-parent partnerships; 5. Hire and train staff to support college-based transition services; 6. Offer relevant professional development; 7. Integrate ongoing evaluation activities
