The Massachusetts Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative, MAICEI, at Northern Essex Community College (NECC) is an inclusive, dual enrollment opportunity for students aged 18 to 21 with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. The students are connected through a formal partnership with their local public school district and enroll in classes on either of the college’s two neighboring campuses: Haverhill and Lawrence, MA. The NECC MAICEI Partnership strives to increase the students’ academic, social and career readiness skills and success. The students’ college experience is individualized to best match their interests, career aspirations and goals. Students are encouraged to become active participants on campus by joining student activities, events, clubs and utilizing campus centers such as the Fitness/Wellness Center, Library and IT/Computer Center.
