The purpose of the Transition and Postsecondary Education/Employment: Students, Technology, Relationships and YOU Postsecondary Transition Program (TAPESTRY) is to provide students ages 18 to 26 with a disability a postsecondary college experience to develop self-advocacy skills, social skills, and engages in career exploration that leads to employment in a career field or enrollment in a postsecondary educational program. Students earn a UAA Workforce Credential when they complete the one year program.

|Description of our summer transition program:||
The Summer Academy meets on a staggered schedule over the summer with classroom activites, a service learning project and placement in a work experience. Our target audience for the TAPESTRY Summer Academy is a student who is finishing their junior year of high school and who has been on an IEP or 504 Plan, or struggles with academics. Enrollment is on a first-come basis.

First Semester TAPESTRY classes:
● Orientation – this class covers student life on campus including tours, clubs and activities, technology information, scheduling and the new student orientation offered to all students. Students will complete this class the week before the semester starts.
● Exploration – career exploration, disability disclosure and accommodations, group discovery,resume building.
● Job Search – final resume, Career Fair, mock interviews, and job searches.
● Core Social Skills recognizing emotions, communication, boundaries, workplace relationships, online safety, conflict resolution, personal safety, developing and maintaining relationships.
Second Semester TAPESTRY classes:
● Employability Skills – goal development, practicing life skills, making friends, getting a job, budgeting and benefits planning, DVR and other services, leadership and team work, study skills and time management.
● Internship – job experience for up to 20 hours per week and a “Job Club” that meets 1 time a week for group support with workplace issues, how to read your pay stub, understanding income and your benefits.
