SOTA Presentation: Supporting Faculty Through Planning and Communication Strategies for Success

Inclusive higher education presumes students with intellectual disability are accessing academic courses with their college peers. To ensure these learning experiences are successful, program staff must address questions and concerns with faculty before and throughout the duration of the course. At the November 2021 State of the Art Conference, presenters Meg Grigal and Clare Papay shared strategies program staff can use to better support faculty including: how to share relevant information about students’ needs without compromising privacy; how to communicate about program and student goals; introducing faculty to tools to assist instruction and assessment; and addressing the role of peer mentors in the classroom.
