Center on Transition to Employment for Youth with Disabilities
The purpose of the Center on Transition to Employment for Youth with Disabilities is to identify, research, and widely disseminate evidence-based practices that contribute to successful employment for youth with disabilities making the transition from school to adult employment. Through six discrete studies, the Center is designed to research and spotlight the strategies and circumstances that produce optimal employment and career achievement for these youth, who continue to transition from school to adult life with much lower prospects for employment success than their non-disabled peers. Thus, the Center will provide a comprehensive and contemporary view of the strategies and models of school to work transition for youth with disabilities in our country.
In addition to reports on the research findings, the Center will produce usable and accessible products enabling educators, professionals, youth with disabilities and their families, and advocates to apply the studies’ findings to practice and individual circumstances. This dedicated Center website will offer 24 hour access to products such as research summaries, research-to-practice briefs, training and technical assistance materials, as well as a venue for delivering webinars and on-line training.
TransCen, Inc. is partnering with the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Rehabilitation Research Training Center in the operation of the Center, which is funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
