New York AB 3010: Establishing a College Experience Program for Students with Developmental Disabilities

New York AB 3010: Establishing a College Experience Program for Students with Developmental Disabilities

Expired in 2019, this bill would have required the trustees of the State University of New York (SUNY) and the City University of New York (CUNY) to create regulations that would establish a two-year college experience program for students with developmental disabilities at each SUNY and CUNY postsecondary education institution. The college experience programs the schools develop must include practical living skills in its academic curriculum, including but not limited to cooking, personal finance, health and wellness, and interpersonal communications. SUNY and CUNY must provide internship opportunities and housing for students as part of the program. State university trustees would be empowered to set admissions standards, including how to determine the level of academic proficiency that a student with a disability must have in order to gain entry into the program. Students enrolled in a college experience program at SUNY or CUNY can use an HCBS waiver or SSI to pay tuition.

This bill is a re-introduced version of NY Assembly Bill A8075 previously introduced in 2018.
