This Affinity group is designed for current or prospective graduate students interested in inclusive higher education. Activities include but are not limited to discussion of conferences, networking, courses, research practices, mentors/advisors, job search, job materials (CV, cover letter), and thesis or dissertation work. This group will provide a supportive community for graduate students and share various resources, tools, and tips for being a graduate student interested in inclusive higher education.

Members of the Graduate Student Affinity Group are also invited to join the Research Affinity Group – a group for anyone interested in research.

Mentors
Date: January 25, 2023
Summary: The group discussed the different types of mentors (faculty and peer), how to find one, and their role in the graduate school process.


Networking
Date: October 19, 2022
Summary: This meeting was an informal networking event at the State of the Arts conference. Graduate students introduced themselves and their interests. We also discussed topics including our responsibilities as graduate assistants and tips for those thinking of applying for a PhD program.

Summary: At this meeting we discussed all topics surrounding conferences (i.e., which ones to attend, how to prepare as a presenter, submitting proposals, etc.). We also discussed topics for future meetings and what projects group members are currently working on.
