NOTICE: Alexander, Murray Seek Input on Reauthorization of Higher Education Act

National Down Syndrome Congress

Did you know that the Senate education committee is working on the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act of 1965? The Higher Education Act created the TPSID model demonstration programs as well as funding a variety of teacher preparation programs, student loans and Pell grants, and other university programs. Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-Wash.) are seeking comments or suggestions for the Committee's consideration. If you are interested in letting the Committee know what is important to you about the Higher Education Act, how it impacts your life and work, or a story about a student with disabilities in higher education, please send comments to HigherEducation2018@help.senate.gov. The National Down Syndrome Congress (NDSC) and the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) have developed resources you can use, including a sign on letter from which you can obtain specific thoughts and recommendations. If your organization is interested in signing on to the letter, contact Denise Rozell at AUCD. Deadline for comments is Friday, February 23, 2018.
