The annual State of the Art Conference on Higher Education and Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities is an influential and informative conference for educators, administrators and families interested in higher education for people with ID. As the conference continues to share resources and best practices in developing successful programs, the organizers felt an important voice was under-represented: the voice of the students. The new Student Leadership Conference (SLC) will give students who are in the transition period of their lives the opportunity to come together to collaborate and share their own experiences.

This conference will take place on the campus of Syracuse University and run concurrent to the main State of the Art Conference. The SLC is for students and by students. Agenda items include self-advocacy, independent living, college life, self-determination, social activities, and more. There will also be combined plenary sessions each morning, where students join State of the Art Conference attendees to hear presentations on key topics including college experiences and transitioning to independent living.

This new addition to State of the Art is sure to be a rich learning opportunity for students. Registration is only $50 for the two-day SLC conference and includes most meals.   Accommodations are available at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center across the street.
